To our beloved Zappy Dots Customers, Designers, and Community:
The time has come to say goodbye! Zappy Dots will be closing its doors at the end of June 2022. Please be sure to subscribe to our email newsletter as we will be offering new discounts each Wednesday. These offers will continue through our final day of online sales, June 27, or until we sell out of inventory, whichever comes first.
We can’t thank you enough for your support, which has spanned more than a decade! For more about our journey and our closing, here is a letter from Zappy Dots Founder Kim Ivkov:
An Amazing Journey
We are very grateful to everyone who has been a part of the Zappy Dots journey over the past 10+ years! It’s hard to believe hand-making magnets for local kids’ parties and events in 2012 would turn into a booming international notions, accessories, and apparel business, but that’s exactly what happened.
Since that time, we’re proud to say we’ve created many firsts in both the quilt and stitch industries. Early on, “Quilt Dots” and “Stitch Dots” gave us the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with incredible designers to create magnets, Needle Nannies, and needle tins featuring their licensed artwork. Then, those relationships paved the way for our most recent endeavor, launching our first apparel brand in the quilt industry.
The Expansion Conundrum
Since the initial introduction of our apparel at the 2020 AQS show in Daytona Beach, Florida, it’s been a whirlwind of learning, excitement, and growth — intermingled with the very real challenges of operating during a period of global uncertainty and supply chain woes.
In 2022, along with launching our new website, Zappy Dots explored many opportunities that would provide for considerable expansion, including locating new pattern makers, sourcing new fabrics, and identifying additional production facilities.
However, alongside these positive hallmarks of expansion are the realities of our time: backlogged supply orders, shipping delays, and skyrocketing materials costs. And, unfortunately, as our brand flourishes, these struggles promise to multiply along with it.
It’s with this knowledge that I made the difficult choice to close Zappy Dots.
"And suddenly you just know it's time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings." — Meister Eckhart.
As you can imagine, the decision to close was certainly not an easy one. Yet I have learned that you can build something successful, wonderful, and unique, and still know in your heart that it’s time for a fresh start. I decided to lean into my instinct, and instead of mourning an end, I’m following Eckhart’s advice to “trust the magic of beginnings.”
So as we close the book on Zappy Dots, I write this with the genuine hope that the relationships we’ve built and knowledge we’ve gained are truly the beginning of an exciting new story for all of us. As Alexander Graham Bell famously said, “When one door closes, another opens.” What new opportunities will our next door hold? I’m not sure. However, I am certain that the memories, friendships, and experiences I made at Zappy Dots will last a lifetime.
